Klamath California
Stopping off here in Klamath California at the Klamath Camper Corral ( KCC ), were we stayed a full week. This was are second time to stay here.
OCEAN
The KCC has a small trail that takes you to the klamath river inlet we walk down to and check it out with the dogs several times a day. Were about a 10 minute drive from camp to a small beach along highway 101. ( were not sure it has a name ) Any ways we go to this beach most days so let's just call it the Klamath beach.
At the Klamath beach we love playing in the waves for hours. We have wet suits so we don’t freeze to death but the water is still pretty cold trust me. SP always plays the longest in the water. A lot of the times we go we have beach fires to warm up around and even have s’mores. Mom and Dad let us kids have our own fire one of the days. We had to start it and keep it going. Dad ended up helping us start it but we kept it going for about 3 hours. It was fun to have our own fire. We found little soft shell crabs, they are fun to find. How you find them is kind of hard to do, you have to wait till there is a wave then as the water goes out you dig and if your lucky you will find one. Speaking of crabs we found a few big ones washed up dead on the shore and a couple crab melts on this beach. We like to watch people surf and fish here also.
We did some of the over look trails where the Klamath river comes into the ocean. All of these over looks were really cool. I was hoping to see whales. Maybe next time.
Also at the Klamath beach we went early one morning to see the tide pools. It was a pretty foggy but warm morning. There was a lot of star fish, some were connected to rocks and some were just in the sand. We picked up and held the ones in the sand and then put them back. We also saw lots of crabs in all sizes alive in the pools. There were so many mussels, barnacles, sea enemies, sea weeds, ect. Some of the sea weed was really colorful like you would think a mermaid tail would look.
We traveled about a hour south to Moon Stone Beach. Mom and dad read that we could find sand dollars there. As we were walking down to the water we found a little cave to explore that’s where mom found the first sand dollar. In the cave was a really cool old tree stump stuck in it. Once we made it down to the water we were finding a sand dollar every step we took, big ones, small ones, broken ones, perfect ones, they were every were. It was a lot of fun. We had to narrow down to just a few favorites to keep.
TREES
We spent a day at Jedediah State Park. We started the day off at the visitors center finding out what to see, do, and we did the Junior Ranger program. We decided that we wanted to do the small hike to the summer foot bridge that goes over the Smith River. The water was so clear and pretty. MJ, SP, and ET swam in it and jumped off the bridge into it. This was a fun place to visit.
Trees of Mysteries is one of our families favorite things. We did it last year and again this year. ( Fun fact mom came here as a kid with Grandma ) We go first thing in the morning when it opens before it gets crowed. We do the rope bridges a few times then hurry over to ride the gondola a few time until things start to get lines. Once that happens we head home for lunch / school / relax time for a while then head back over. This time we brought Chase because Trees of Mysteries is dog friendly. Chase did all of the rope bridges with mom, going all the way up to 150 feet in the air. He really did great. Chase also had fun riding the gondola ( i think he liked to gondola a little more than the bridges ) but he did great with everything and every one.
Prairie creek Reedwoods state Park is about a 10 minute drive from the KCC also. We did the drive and saw some elk on are way back to camp one day. But we went and spent a morning doing a 3.2 mile hike in the trees along the Brown Creek. I love seeing the trees. they are so big and cool. My favorites are the ones you can climb in. When I look up I just can’t believe how tall they are. This trail was fun because it had so many little foot bridges and creek crossings. This was ET’s longest hike to do one his own. We all celebrated him when we finished the hike he was very proud of himself.
We love Klamath CA. I am sure we will be here again. Until next time.
