🦔Dantes Peak & Zabriskies Point

Dantes peak sunset

Have you ever watched the sunset before? Have you ever watched the full moon rise before? What about at the same time? We were lucky enough to do this.

The sun set Dantes Peak

On our Last trip to Death Valley we did a hike called Dantes peak to see the  sunset and the full moon rise.

Sun set - Bad Water's below

First off we had to drive up as high as we could. The road was pretty steep at a 15% grade. Once we made it to the top and parked, we walked all around to see the different views. We saw some really cool views of Bad Water's salt flats. Than we hiked up the mountain to the highest peak to find a spot to watch the sunset. The salt flats look so big from where we were. We found the perfect spot overlooking the flats . I found the perfect rock to sit on to watch the sunset in the West and the full moon rise in the East. The sunset was so pretty. It was really neat to watch the last rays of the sun set. We thought it would be dark after the sun went down, but when the moon came up it was so bright it lit the path down the mountain for us.

Full moon rising

There were so many professional photographers up there taking photos. We were the only kids there. Almost everyone was a photographer but us. They took our family photos for us and told us how cool they thought it was that we were there.

Sun set & Bad Waters

Badwater Salt Flats is the lowest point in North America at negative 882 ft below sea level and Dante's Peak is 5,475 Ft above sea level it's pretty cool when you think about it.

Dantes peak

It looks like we were looking down on streams of water but really it was just salt from the Salt Flats the sun reflected off of it and made it look really cool.

When we left Dante's Peak it was 39° outside when we got back to the camp 40 minutes later it was 60° outside what a huge difference I would definitely do this again however I would dress warmer we were not prepared for it to be so cold up top and there was a little breeze making it even chillier.

Zarbisky's point - full moon setting

The  next morning we got up really early to see the sunrise at Zabriskies point.  The colors were amazing . It lite up the mountain tops and made them look like they were glowing. It was so pretty.

Zarbisky's- sun rise

Mom made sure we dressed warmer and had three windbreaker blankets for us to share good thing because it was very cold and windy also we ate breakfast and watched the sun rise.

A few of the people at Zabriskies were also there at Dante's peek the night before they were amazed and very impressed we were up so early watching the sunrise. They once again took our family photos for us.

Zarbisky's point is only 823 ft tall but seems so high because the lower elevation is negative 282 ft below sea level.

We watched the full moon set in the west and the Sun rise in the east the opposite of last night it was really cool to see the full circle and to slowly watch the sun light up the peaks of the mountains around us as we watched it all fall asleep the night before.

Zarbisky's- sun rise

I really liked both sunset and sunrise about the same I really thought it was cool to watch the rotation of the Sun and Moon I would do both again anytime I visited Death Valley and would recommend it for you to do also.

Zarbisky's- full moon

I love to see the sunrise and sunset.
