Attack at Crater Lake
Here we go again, we're off to Crater Lake and a few other places but will get to them later.
Mom and Dad got us up at the wee hour of 4am to head out on this adventure. Why, you might ask? Well, for a few reasons but mostly in hopes we will sleep during the drive and the roads won’t be to hot and cause blow out, beating any traffic is an added bonus.
Once we got there we popped out the 5th wheel slides and set up camp. We all rode scooters and played while mom made us a snack. Once ready we all jumped back in the truck to go see the lake. We did the quick drive up to Rim Village to spend a few hours.
Fun fact - Famous for its beautiful blue color, the lake’s water comes directly from snow or rain -- there are no inlets from other water sources. This means no sediment or mineral deposits are carried into the lake, helping it maintain its rich color and making it one of the cleanest and clearest lakes of the world.
My first thought when I saw the lake was “wow” it was much bigger than I thought it would be. I expected it to look like Lake Tahoe, it does not. The Lake is huge and has very very very blue and clear water. Some of the bluest, clearest, and clearest water in the world. From Rim Village we were able to see across the entire lake, phantom ship, and wizard island. We also attended a ranger lead program and earned our Junior Ranger patches. We did not see “ the old man “.
Fun fact - did you know that Crater Lake is the deepest lake in America at 1,943 feet.
I am trying to learn how to use a camera because I am interested in possibly being a photographer so this was a great place for me to practice taking lots of photos. I can’t wait to go home and look at all of them on the computer.
On the way back to camp we stopped at a random trail called Godfrees. It was just a 1 mile loop trail. It had really pretty views of the canyon. This was Everests first 1 mile trail without being carried. YAY! for mom!!
Once back at camp we thought we would start a fire and hang out. However the misquotes were also ready for dinner, we were on the menu, and the great misquote attack took place. So we quickly ate and retreated to the trailer for the night. The misquotes were crazy thick every evening so we didn’t spend much time out side with them.
The next morning we got up and headed back up to the lake to Watchmen’s lookout. The look out is right next to Wizard Island so you can really see it well.
Side note - we watch the tv show Rock the Park so we knew some of the history and things to look for while at the park, like ‘ the old man “.
We decided to hike the 1.7 mile round trip tail up to the Watchaman’s tower, when walking over to it SP looked over and saw “ the old man “ he pointed him out to us all so that was cool.
The short but very steep trail up to the tower was really cool. We could look to one side and see as far as you could of hill, mountains, and trees, then look to your other side and see the full volcano crater full of some of the wordless bluest cleanest water on earth. Just an amazing place to stand.
We highly recommend visiting Crater Lake - pack wisely
